It’s a new year, a fresh start, the possibilities are endless. So why do most people burn anew with hope on January 1, only to fizzle out a week or two later? It’s probably not just a lack of motivation, as you may think.

There are three main reasons we fail at our resolutions:

  1. We pick a goal that’s too ambitious or unrealistic.
  2. We pick a goal, but we don’t spend time to really think about the ACTIONS we will take to achieve it.
  3. We have no point of accountability.

I’d like to stir the pot and challenge you to rethink your 2020 resolutions. Let’s whip those resolutions into shape!

2020 can be YOUR year to shine. Here’s how:

  1. Make sure your goal is attainable. Losing 50 pounds by Valentine’s Day is probably not going to happen. Be real with yourself, and make your goal something within reach. For example, instead of the 50 pounds, maybe you go with 5 pounds, and then when you successfully hit that target, you can reassess what your next goal will be from there.
  2. Make sure you have a clear plan of action. Reflect on the following: What does achieving your goal mean to you? What is the single first step you will take? What might get in your way? What will you do when that happens? Really take the time to plan each step to your success. Then, think about your timeline and how you will measure your success. Is it in pounds lost, money grown, gratitude shown, time with family, a new certification, a book read, an article written?
  3. Find an accountability partner. Find that special someone who will kindly, but firmly, hold you to task. Perhaps someone working toward the same goal or a significant other who will champion your progress and/or give you a pep talk if you feel discouraged. Set-up regular check-ins with this person, and by all means, CELEBRATE your success.

I’d love to hear about your success this year. Drop me a note so I can celebrate with you! Finally, if you’re still feeling overwhelmed about when or how to start, contact me to set-up an individualized coaching appointment.
